Take a StoryWalk Downtown Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls, ON, June 1, 2022 – The Downtown Niagara Falls Business Improvement Area (BIA) has partnered with the Niagara Falls Public Library to offer StoryWalks to the community throughout the summer.
Beginning in June, a story will be on display in the downtown area, with a new story being shared in July and August. Pages of each story are printed on panels and placed in the front windows of 12 participating businesses. Families can walk to each story panel on display to read the entire story.
“The Library is excited to install StoryWalks in downtown Niagara Falls again this summer,” says Becky Stark, Community Development and Programming Librarian at Niagara Falls Public Library. “StoryWalks are a fun and interactive way to share the love of reading and storytelling in our community.”
StoryWalks give children the opportunity to experience reading a book while walking downtown. StoryWalks promote literacy and physical activity while encouraging guardian and community involvement.
By scanning the QR code on each page, the story can be read aloud from a mobile device as families complete the StoryWalk. “I think it’s great how accessible StoryWalks are,” noted BIA Events Assistant, Grace Beaman. “Children can read the story at their own pace or have it read to them. This includes those of all reading levels in the activity!”
As an extra incentive to complete each StoryWalk, Ronnie Don’s Ice Cream will be providing a free ice cream cone to kids under 12 who finish the monthly story and find the keyword hidden in each book. Families should be sure to read the new story every month before the new book is displayed.
